Touched by An Angel

Do you believe in Guardian Angels? Allow me to share a real and personal story, and you can draw your own conclusion.
Let me take you back to when I was eighteen and worked in a Community Health Centre. There were doctors, nurses, a dentist, and psychologist.
The psychologist had commenced a youth program. She ran two groups; 5 to 11-year-olds and 12 to 18. The older group challenged the psychologist, and she had decided to cancel that group.
When I heard about it, I was outraged because I knew they needed something in this small country town, so I brazenly walked up to her and stated exactly that. She initially looked at me with amusement and asked how I qualified for the role. I looked her in the eye and said I was one of them. I knew how difficult life was and how it was hard to be heard, and if anyone was qualified, it was someone with the same life experience. Surprisingly, she agreed.
Everything ran smoothly. I arranged for different speakers to share topics of interest to stimulate twenty teenagers that attended. It supported them with options for now and into their future, and for some from abusive homes, it was a safe place to nest for two hours each week.
This particular night a tall young man similar age to me walked in. He wore a long dark coat, and had thick black wavy hair and his eyes, they were different. They looked into you, and for a moment it made me feel uncomfortable. Was he going to be trouble? He didn’t interact with any of the others, just slumped back in his chair and watched, and every time I looked around, he was watching me.
It was the end of the evening, and everyone had gone, I’d just locked the door. Suddenly, I was grabbed from behind and felt a sharp object at my throat as I was dragged backwards. I’d frozen in fear. Then the young man from earlier stepped out of the shadows in front of me. He didn’t look at me and looked straight over my shoulder at the guy and said, “Let her go.”
His grip tightened, and I felt the knife pierce my skin as a trickle of warm blood spilt. The young man’s gaze didn’t move nor did he seem to take any notice of the knife. He then said in what I can only share was the deepest, loudest booming voice. “Let her go NOW!”
The guy dropped me and ran. My legs went from underneath, and he caught me. Looking into his eyes, I saw such kindness and strength. He walked me to my car. I fumbled clumsily for my keys and dropped them. He picked them up opened the door, and helped me in. He then said in such a gentle voice, “Maria, you must look after yourself.” I heard a noise turned away, looked back and he was gone.
I never saw him again.
Until next time,
