Who’s Leading the Way?

Life is exciting, I mean it is. It reminds me of metres of yarn of all different textures and colours being knitted together to create an abstract piece of art.

I love that we can have the freedom within our western society to be who we want, and to change it on a whim if we choose. To dye our hair, change our clothing style and even our body shape. God knows many of us are doing that.

I wonder though, with all that aesthetic change does it change the internal workings of who we are? I mean we are the same person, after all, sometimes confident, others times vulnerable. Occasionally free thinking and other times tied up with restrictions and the busyness life can present.

Let me ask, “Do we appreciate the amazing spiritual being we are or do we allow the ego to lead the way and quieten the voice of the soul?” Many of us do just that, so how do we gain a balance, I mean do we want to move from reaction and fear or a place of wholeness and ease. I certainly know what I would choose.

To quieten the thoughts and the ego-self, firstly, we must acknowledge those thoughts and remind ourselves that the ego can be eager fierce and loud in its delivery. The soul, on the other hand, is likened to a monk that sits and watches with much wisdom and a great knowing, but it won’t interfere nor struggle with the loud booming voice of the ego. Mind you. It doesn’t give up. It patiently waits for an opportunity, and when it comes, it surprises with words of wisdom said to a friend, or even, a feeling so strong that it can’t be ignored and guides you in the direction of your path.

Ego is not all bad for it motivates us and moves us to aspire, and it challenges us to be the best we can. The soul, on the other hand, is the fire in the heart that sparks and enriches our desire to do great things with a purpose in this life not only for ourselves but also our world, fuelled by love.

The ego can entangle us in mixed emotion and sway us from seeing the truth. The soul’s voice can move us in a way that seems far too simple, and surprisingly it is.

Can you see through this journey that no wonder we get confused between our head and our heart?

A process my soul’s wisdom shared is to STOP and sit in silence, breathe out allowing all tension to melt away, then raise our attention to just above our head to what I call the higher mind while we have our hands placed lovingly on our heart. It’s through this focus that the head and ego quieten, and we hear the voice and wisdom of our soul and feel the spark of desire and purpose within turn into a flame.
