Life’s Unseen Gifts

SibylApril2018

First Published in Sibyl Magazine April 2018

Confusion, doubt, incessant mind games haunting the recesses of my mind. What is the truth? What do I believe?

Growing up with a narcissistic mother and then dealing with a father who was caught up in his fears and took his frustration out on me in many unpleasant ways. I often wonder how I’m so sane today. Or am I, or realistically is anyone?

Coming into this world I had a deep understanding and eagerness to learn, yet as I became more initiated into this human life with the twisted mind games a narcissist plays and the physical abuse the body endured. I rolled from having a well of deep compassion to feeling confused, fearful, alone and just wanting to go home. This world was cruel.

Yet, I chose my parents, and there was much to learn from them.

Honestly, it wasn’t until I was in my twenties I began to accept that statement. Prior when others from spiritual circles would express that, the hair at the back of my neck would prickle with disbelief and anger rose.

It was during a lunch break at a Reiki workshop I was teaching when one of my students who was sitting opposite reacted to something I said. She slammed her hands down on the table and launched her body towards me and screamed,

“I’ve had the same childhood and how can you be so positive?”

I remember, although shocked by the force of her energy. A calmness from within emerged, and I sat still for a moment feeling her pain, then compassionately said,

“There’s a saying that God never gives us more than we can handle. I was born with an awareness that has assisted me to see the positive through life’s challenges so that when I fall, and I do, I rise with hope and faith. Now, you have shared your husband is your rock. Tell me have you always had someone in your life that was your rock?”

She answered with calmer energy, “Yes.” I then said,

“I’ve never had a rock. Could you consider that your rock is similar to my positive nature for it has the same role in holding us when life throws bricks, and we fall?”

She thought for a moment and nodded in agreement as she settled back into her chair.

We are never, ever alone in our journey of learning to meander through this life. God/Universe gives us gifts to support in different ways, yet all leading to lift us when we fall.

My parents, I can honestly say I love with all my heart although they have chosen to be absent from my life. They gave me life, showed me their vulnerability, and although I’ve been twisted, reshaped and had a journey of hard learning through similar relationships. It’s been the untangling, simplifying and coming back to the authentic loving, and joyful me that has fuelled my purpose, because of my journey, for supporting and bringing hope into others’ lives.

In gratitude, Namaste

How Sound Affects Your Life

SibylFeb2018

First Published in Sibyl Magazine February 2018

Have you ever wondered why certain sounds and noises create an emotional and physical response?

For example, a shrilling scream may sound piercing to the ears and create a feeling of dread in the stomach. You instantly hold your breath and listen, then it quickens as your brain is assessing, and the primal response of flight or fight kicks in. Your legs are either light and ready to run or heavy and paralysed as the adrenaline shoots through your system.

There’s the opposite like when you hear the sound of the ocean and the waves caressing the sand. A feeling of lightness and calm flow through your body, your breathing slows, and the mind becomes silent and peaceful. Your awareness heightens, and you smell the salt in the air, feel the slight breeze kissing your face, and the sun’s warmth on your skin brings a gentle comfort. Then, your body naturally takes a deep soulful breath in and out.

We are an incredible spiritual being in a human body, and our connection to Mother Earth brings us back into harmony, balance and alignment.

All sound has its frequency and accordingly creates a response such as the sound of your voice. Have you ever noticed some voice tones grate, and others soothe?

We often fill our lives with harsh noises by what we choose to listen to through television, radio, music, etc. I’m not saying we should incubate ourselves and not experience all of what life has to offer. I’m sharing how important it is to create balance and make a conscious choice to recalibrate and re-harmonise our body, mind and spirit.

Last year I had a near death experience which caused ill health for some time. My brain was in a fog, I couldn’t articulate and remember simple words, and I was listless. Loving friends visited and gave me DVD’s to watch, cooked me meals and sat to keep me company. Their intentions were pure, but the sound and frequency of their voices caused my brain distress, and very quickly my body responded, I felt nauseous and the colour on my face turned grey as my energy depleted. I couldn’t watch the DVD’s or television because it did the same.

My body and brain needed silence to heal, and then along the way, the sounds and movement in nature were my gifts, and then I began to recalibrate and move my healing to another level by chanting and singing.

Then, I chose the music and DVD’s I could listen to and watch, and I recognised the sounds that soothed and uplifted my energy and those that agitated and drained it.

This experience although difficult taught me so much about how we respond energetically to our environment, and the importance of having this awareness for our health and wellbeing.

You are an incredible human being made up of trillions of cells. It’s time to nurture, harmonise and recalibrate, and take responsibility for your energy, and wellness will be your reward.

Star Child – The Soul Sings

SibylBlogJan2018

First Published in Sibyl Magazine January 2018

As a small child, I used to run around singing, ‘I’m a star child, I’m a star child.’
To be honest, I never thought about what it meant or was. I suppose I just knew, and it made me happy to skip and sing.

The innocence of a child is refreshingly open and fearless.

As the star child experienced more of what the human life offered, she often found herself sitting in her bath knees hunched up to her chest and singing, but this time it was different. It was sounds and frequencies; she was calling and connecting to home.

I was around eight years of age when I found my soul’s voice. I remember every cell within my body would activate and vibrate giving me such a euphoric feeling. Sadness slipped away, and I felt uplifted and energised.

Connecting back to that small child, she always knew her purpose on this earth. She knew she was to bring hope into this world and was gifted a beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, and a soothing voice. She understood it raised people’s vibration and it was her role to do precisely that.

Though along the way she had lost herself.

Her focus had become external as she took on her role with gusto not realising how important it was to also take care of herself, her energy and her light.

Have you ever felt that way?

The responsibility began to weigh heavily and at times, felt impossible as her own life spiralled into the abyss. The abyss was her thoughts, the mindless overactive brain that drew from fear, past pain and the what if’s.

Where was the star child? Where had she gone?

This day in my home I was stopped suddenly by a chorus singing. The voices were angelic, and I went outside to look where they came from, but they weren’t external. They were within my left ear. So, I laid down on my bed and listened.

I wish I could describe in words the feeling of the harmonic resonance. It was as if many voices were coming from many directions singing in harmony with each other. Then it dawned on me, OMG they were all me! My heart burst open, and tears flowed in recognition. I lay down for some time being blissed out, re-tuned, loved and reconnected to ME.

Life can be a roller coaster, and during those dips when our vibration is low we can become mindless and unconscious in action.

Through experience, life has shown me that mindlessness only creates fear and uncertainty, and traps us. When we connect to our heart and soul, we feel love and loved, and our breath naturally becomes deeper as we anchor to Mother Earth bringing ourselves into the present.

In the present, mindlessness becomes mindfulness.

Being mindful, we make conscious choices connected to our inner knowing creating simplicity and flow. The star child emerges and once again sings in harmony with her soul’s purpose.
