Awareness, Flow and Nature’s Gift

SibylOctober

First published in Sibyl Magazine October 2018

Something is soothing and healing when immersed in nature.

When I’m by the ocean, I feel invigorated, and especially love it when it’s blowing a gale and icy cold. My body, heart and soul are uplifted and excited when I see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks, and feel the ocean spray on my face. An urge rises, and I want to sing to my heart’s content, and don’t tell anyone, but I’ve been known to sit on a rock and do precisely that. Smiling, and always with open arms, my voice is directed out to the vast ocean, unrestrained and uninhibited, and encouraged by my inner child as a giggle erupts as she opens her eyes wide and smiles at the world with a cheeky grin.

Have you ever felt inspired to release your melody and let your inner child play in nature?

I’d just arrived home after walking Maggie my gorgeous pup along a small creek surrounded by Australian Native trees and dense bush. During my walk I wanted to be present, laughing, it helped with Maggie’s keen interest to sniff the ground and every blade of grass along the way.

It reminded me how I nurture and guide others through meditation. Especially when I take my class outside and teach mindfulness techniques while communing with nature as they breathe and harmonise the gifts that Mother Nature offers. Or, when seated inside, I guide their journey through visualisation and encourage my class to connect to a place of stillness within.

That day, I was in awe of nature’s beauty as I gazed along the creek bed. A tree had died and was now supported by another on the other side. Surprisingly, that picture reminded me of my community and those that care for me, and a comforting warmth spread through my body.  The glistening water in the creek caught my attention, luscious new growth was sprouting, and a vast range of colours tantalised my senses. I felt calm and peaceful and noticed my breath was deep and gentle, and fell in love, and felt nourished by the beautiful landscape.

Maggie became a little restless, so we continued our walk. Soon we met with a woman who carried a professional, sturdy camera in her hand. She was looking up into the tree, so I stopped and said hello. She explained that some kookaburras had nested in the hollow of the tree above and she was keen to capture a photo of the baby kookaburra. We began a conversation about sustainability, different cultures, and then our travels overseas. She’d been to many of the countries I had, and it was a delight to reminisce and share stories.

Later, I realised we had created our own melodic chatter as our energy interconnected and our vibration stretched and expanded into many continents. I wondered, “Was nature now listening intently to us, and did she feel and absorb the inspiration and heartfelt joy of our connection?” I hoped so.

With gratitude.

Until next week beautiful souls,

Full Moon Eclipse and our Energy In Motion

red moon during night time

The full moon and eclipse are happening tomorrow here in Aussie, and the energy has been intense, and especially for us sensitives.

This week I’ve found my energy slightly erratic at times and other times smooth and harmonious as deep emotion rose and then subsided like waves crashing against the rocks. Admittedly, it got my attention for I felt the spray but never a tidal wave that overwhelmed and left me gasping for breath. Or at least, I’m happy to say not for me this week, although I put my hand up to having a little outburst! Haha, yes even a friend couldn’t stop laughing for I’m not known to express in that way.

After my outburst, I vacuum cleaned and washed my floors to dissipate and transmute the energy. Smiling, it felt great, and the reasoning dropped in effortlessly, enough for me to laugh about it, and take responsibility for my feelings and action.

I’m trusting you have a healthy way to release and transform any charged energy that propels you forward with underlying deep hurt, sadness and pain. If not could I suggest the following; Walk away, change your focus, get outside in nature, do some housework or other activity, and most importantly breathe and take three deep conscious breaths releasing the pent-up energy. Trust that helps.

During this phase universally it’s not the time to analyse and overthink nor pursue the answers to any emotion that is bubbling to the surface but to SHOW UP, feel into, wait and listen.

In many ways, it’s been cathartic to feel, acknowledge release and as one of my students said this week, ‘shut the door’ and celebrate the healing and newfound awareness.

Interestingly, with a clearer head that feels spacious, I’ve felt less inclined to fill it up. To be honest, it feels soooo much lighter! My schedule has also been cleared this week, which admittedly I would generally scramble to fill, but not this week.

It was time to honour me, my feelings and go with the flow, and I’ve played more with my pup Maggie, walked more, spent time in nature often, written in my journal and rested.

Smiling, and all without the usual guilt and urgency to multi-skill and that brings me to another realisation in my week. I now want to be single focused which has delightfully made me more productive and present in my life. I used to be so proud of multi-skilling, but this week I’ve come to understand that for me at this time, multi-skilling had created a busy brain, which became a whirlpool of thoughts and lifted me into the ethers unable to really and truly anchor great ideas and inspiration into my day. Let alone feelings and expressions of happiness and creativity.

Lol, logic can often go out the window when we’re ungrounded and unexpressed emotion can have its way with us. Just saying 😉

Well enough from me today, trust that sharing a little snippet of my week will support you in yours.

Star Child – The Soul Sings

SibylBlogJan2018

First Published in Sibyl Magazine January 2018

As a small child, I used to run around singing, ‘I’m a star child, I’m a star child.’
To be honest, I never thought about what it meant or was. I suppose I just knew, and it made me happy to skip and sing.

The innocence of a child is refreshingly open and fearless.

As the star child experienced more of what the human life offered, she often found herself sitting in her bath knees hunched up to her chest and singing, but this time it was different. It was sounds and frequencies; she was calling and connecting to home.

I was around eight years of age when I found my soul’s voice. I remember every cell within my body would activate and vibrate giving me such a euphoric feeling. Sadness slipped away, and I felt uplifted and energised.

Connecting back to that small child, she always knew her purpose on this earth. She knew she was to bring hope into this world and was gifted a beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, and a soothing voice. She understood it raised people’s vibration and it was her role to do precisely that.

Though along the way she had lost herself.

Her focus had become external as she took on her role with gusto not realising how important it was to also take care of herself, her energy and her light.

Have you ever felt that way?

The responsibility began to weigh heavily and at times, felt impossible as her own life spiralled into the abyss. The abyss was her thoughts, the mindless overactive brain that drew from fear, past pain and the what if’s.

Where was the star child? Where had she gone?

This day in my home I was stopped suddenly by a chorus singing. The voices were angelic, and I went outside to look where they came from, but they weren’t external. They were within my left ear. So, I laid down on my bed and listened.

I wish I could describe in words the feeling of the harmonic resonance. It was as if many voices were coming from many directions singing in harmony with each other. Then it dawned on me, OMG they were all me! My heart burst open, and tears flowed in recognition. I lay down for some time being blissed out, re-tuned, loved and reconnected to ME.

Life can be a roller coaster, and during those dips when our vibration is low we can become mindless and unconscious in action.

Through experience, life has shown me that mindlessness only creates fear and uncertainty, and traps us. When we connect to our heart and soul, we feel love and loved, and our breath naturally becomes deeper as we anchor to Mother Earth bringing ourselves into the present.

In the present, mindlessness becomes mindfulness.

Being mindful, we make conscious choices connected to our inner knowing creating simplicity and flow. The star child emerges and once again sings in harmony with her soul’s purpose.

Back on Path, Mindfulness in Action

One_Path_Many_Lights_eBook_WebsiteAn excerpt from my book One Path, Many Lights – Chapter Eight

Back on Path, Mindfulness in Action

After the experience with my carotid artery I knew it was important to maintain some form of fitness and stay healthy. However, I realised it had been a number of weeks since I had walked any significant distance.

Off to the Lilydale Lake I went. Getting up in the dark and trying to find my clothes, I started to wonder, What am I doing?  Yet after washing the sleep from my eyes I could see clearly again and realised it wasn’t that bad!

My friend Charlotte and I started our walk around the lake when it was still dark. Street lights along the path partially lit our way and we were guided by the light of the full moon. It was magical.

On our past walks together we had talked and laughed, and focused mainly on our goal of getting around the lake twice in a good time. Yet something had happened. We started noticing so much more – like rabbits sitting tall and watching us. As we came close, they turned around with their fluffy white tails and scuttled away. At first we only noticed one but hiding behind clumps of grass was a whole family. A duck swam silently through the calm water forming a V-shaped wake as it glided along. The sun was rising in all its colour and brilliance. Mist hovered over the lake. Charlotte imagined we were in a scene from King Arthur. I thought we were in Scotland waiting for the Loch Ness monster to rise up and grace us with its presence.

We smiled encouragingly as our imagination bubbled — something I hadn’t felt for a while – and I got in touch with my inner child.

A little marsupial, larger than a mouse and not as big as a rat, sat comfortably on the side of the walkway, eating happily and not phased one bit as we strode by. We looked in amusement, making up stories about what it was thinking about us. Sitting on a post, two small blue birds watched as we walked by, their vivid colour bringing us feelings of happiness and putting a skip in our step.

Everything had changed. Nature’s beauty and richness was enhanced.

We expanded our breath as we walked and talked, each of our senses taking in the experience of the moment. Our bodies were relaxed even though we walked fast. Our backs extended upwards as if we were getting taller. We decided to rename Lilydale Lake “Lake Epiphany” because there had been many times that answers had profoundly dropped in.

No longer did we talk about getting fit. We shared that we were nourishing our souls as we breathed in the moment, aware and open.

It’s so easy, through life’s twists and turns, to lose our connection with the very thing that inspires and nourishes us: nature.

I now understand that reconnecting with nature makes us infinitely richer.

Back in the car we wound down the windows when they fogged up from our body heat. Driving off I felt the breeze cooling the perspiration on my face and down the back of my neck. I was alive! With gratitude, I silently thanked Lake Epiphany and all of her inhabitants for sharing and showing me the way.
