My Heart Speaks

SibylApril2019InsideStory

First published in Sibyl Magazine April 2019

I often bring myself back to the fact I’m a spiritual being having a human experience. When I consider spirituality, I don’t see it as separate from my physical journey on this earth plane.

In fact, embodying the whole of my mind, body, soul and heart empowers me to experience life in all aspects. For I am the child, teenager, adolescent, adult, woman, mother, sister, friend. I’m also the healer, the nurturer, the seer, the star child, the wise sage and shaman. I AM ALL THAT I AM.. a child of God, connected within a stream of light, born of love, conceived of light and intended to experience all that IS.

Today’s a beautiful warm day here in Australia. The sun is shining, and I’m sitting outside enjoying its warmth. I’ve asked for inspiration and received so much more.

Today, I’ve been greeted by a dragonfly, had a ladybug land on me, enjoyed the hungry chirping of newborn birds in a nest in one of my trees. Had a colourful butterfly fly around while my gorgeous little dog Maggie slept on my lap while we rested for a short time.

These were my inspiration for this article, which I’m delighted and thankful for. Seeing the dragonfly was quite unusual for it generally flies near water. The Dragonfly symbolises change, transformation, adaptability, and self-realisation. This change has its source in mental and emotional maturity and understanding the deeper meaning of life.

It’s been a long, long while since I’ve seen a ladybug and the ladybug is the embodiment of luck, good fortune and prosperity leading one to experience the joys of life and living life to the fullest.

The butterfly is also about transformation, change, joy and colour. Laughing do you see a theme here?

The last time I saw newborn chicks nesting in a tree was when I was a small child, and I can only imagine it meant my hopes and dreams were ready to take flight.

My journey of fifty-eight years on this path has not always been easy. In fact, there have been multiple traumas throughout my life. On reflection, these have served me well in my vocation for I connect from a place of knowing and compassion, and my gentle soul is always intact. I’ve been inspired to share that our past is just that. Don’t let it define you, allow it to shape your experience, for our quest is to embrace love and allow the authentic truth of our soul to emerge.

Throughout my journey, I’ve come to understand it’s the simple things that bring me the greatest of joys, and simplifying my choices brings me peace and happiness. As I listen intently to my heart and walk a path of ‘feeling my way’ rather than ‘thinking my way’, I’ve released so much indecision and tension creating more harmony in my life.

Life is to be lived not accumulated. We have the innate abilities to create and manifest a life well lived. Recently, I found a quote online. Unfortunately, the author is unknown, and I’d love to share it with you.

“Life is like a piano. The white keys represent happiness, and the black keys show sadness. But as you go through life’s journey, remember that black keys make music too.”

In closing, embody all of you, seek within and allow your heart to express and light your path. From experience life in its simplicity will create from one synchronised moment to the other. When we’re present, we will notice the signs and take heart from those gifts, and happiness will be our reward.

Change is Within Us

ChangeGuardiansOftheLight

‘To change is to be willing to see things differently. Change is not without a new perspective.’

I sat writing with the Guardians of the Light late yesterday before running my advanced spiritual development class, and the above statement is what they shared for today’s blog.

Sitting today in contemplation of that quote I realised how often many have felt, (including myself) change happened to them, and at times we had no control over the outcome.

The quote by the Guardians of the Light empowers us to know that we are the change, the creator of change, and it’s all about our mindset!

It reminds me of Mahatma Gandhi’s quote: ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world.’

Love the way a simple statement can move us from feeling powerless to stand in our power.

Short but deep this week 😉

Perception – Do We See the Same Thing?

PerceptionEyeThe dictionary’s meaning of Perception:

  1. A) The ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses
  2. B) The way in which something is regarded understood or interpreted.

Do we see the same thing? Interesting question … Have you ever looked up at the sky and noticed a shape in the clouds such as a rabbit or angel? While in awe at that amazing sight you share this with your friend standing next to you and they nod absently seemingly disinterested because they can’t see it.

Or, you’re walking through the bush and notice a scent that you just love and ask your friend, “Can you smell that?” You find a blank look on their face as if you’re talking about aliens standing on the path ahead.

These are two simple examples, but in life, there can be major misunderstandings created because of the different perceptions of the individuals involved often causing conflict and frustration.

In psychology, we talk about a frame of reference. Tversky, A. And Kahneman, D (1981) explained it like this; A frame of reference is a complex set of assumptions and attitudes which we use to filter perceptions to create meaning. The frame can include beliefs, schemas, preferences, values, culture and other ways in which we bias our understanding and judgement.

Let’s go back to the rabbit shaped cloud in the sky. What if you held up your arm and pointed your finger towards the shape you saw and asked your friend to place their hand over yours as you drew it in the air? Do you think they would see what you see? Yes, they would and would forever more see shapes in the clouds because you took your time to show them.

Now let’s look at that lovely scent in the bush. In Australia, we have the eucalyptus gum tree, and the leaves smell just like eucalyptus. What if you pulled a leaf off the branch and scrunched it in your hand and then smelt it and encouraged your friend to do the same. Would you feel you have increased their awareness and possibly opened them to experience the beautiful scents as they walked in nature? I’d say yes.

Now there will be some situations where no matter how you communicate the other person will have dug in their heels and will not want to see your perspective. You may have even found yourself in the same situation standing there righteously claiming your truth. I know that I have!

Through a recent personal experience, I wondered why a particular person was avoiding me. I called them and asked, “What’s going on for you, please tell me because I care and love you?” I then listened to what she had to say without interruption for the next fifteen minutes.

Hearing her initially, I was in shock, really that’s what you thought happened. None of what the other person stated resonated. In fact, I felt my body reject it immediately. That person believed they stood in their truth as I knew I was in mine.  We both had an entirely different perception.

There’s a saying about walking in someone else’s shoes… it can help, but there will be times that you may have to agree to disagree or walk away.

It’s a matter of how important that person or situation is, and it’s not about conceding, gloating or feeling frustrated. It’s about compassion for the other knowing that we all have our unique frame of reference, and then having confidence in your truth and intent, and feeling peaceful in that.

Often, I have used my body as the barometer. If it reacts with a complete rejection of the initial statement, then I know this is not true and real for me. If there’s a hesitation, then maybe there’s something in that person’s perception of the situation that I need to look at carefully.

I trust you have enjoyed my blog post.
