Awareness, Flow and Nature’s Gift

SibylOctober

First published in Sibyl Magazine October 2018

Something is soothing and healing when immersed in nature.

When I’m by the ocean, I feel invigorated, and especially love it when it’s blowing a gale and icy cold. My body, heart and soul are uplifted and excited when I see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks, and feel the ocean spray on my face. An urge rises, and I want to sing to my heart’s content, and don’t tell anyone, but I’ve been known to sit on a rock and do precisely that. Smiling, and always with open arms, my voice is directed out to the vast ocean, unrestrained and uninhibited, and encouraged by my inner child as a giggle erupts as she opens her eyes wide and smiles at the world with a cheeky grin.

Have you ever felt inspired to release your melody and let your inner child play in nature?

I’d just arrived home after walking Maggie my gorgeous pup along a small creek surrounded by Australian Native trees and dense bush. During my walk I wanted to be present, laughing, it helped with Maggie’s keen interest to sniff the ground and every blade of grass along the way.

It reminded me how I nurture and guide others through meditation. Especially when I take my class outside and teach mindfulness techniques while communing with nature as they breathe and harmonise the gifts that Mother Nature offers. Or, when seated inside, I guide their journey through visualisation and encourage my class to connect to a place of stillness within.

That day, I was in awe of nature’s beauty as I gazed along the creek bed. A tree had died and was now supported by another on the other side. Surprisingly, that picture reminded me of my community and those that care for me, and a comforting warmth spread through my body.  The glistening water in the creek caught my attention, luscious new growth was sprouting, and a vast range of colours tantalised my senses. I felt calm and peaceful and noticed my breath was deep and gentle, and fell in love, and felt nourished by the beautiful landscape.

Maggie became a little restless, so we continued our walk. Soon we met with a woman who carried a professional, sturdy camera in her hand. She was looking up into the tree, so I stopped and said hello. She explained that some kookaburras had nested in the hollow of the tree above and she was keen to capture a photo of the baby kookaburra. We began a conversation about sustainability, different cultures, and then our travels overseas. She’d been to many of the countries I had, and it was a delight to reminisce and share stories.

Later, I realised we had created our own melodic chatter as our energy interconnected and our vibration stretched and expanded into many continents. I wondered, “Was nature now listening intently to us, and did she feel and absorb the inspiration and heartfelt joy of our connection?” I hoped so.

With gratitude.

Until next week beautiful souls,

Magical Blessings in Hawaii

SibylAugust2018Issue

First Published Sibyl Magazine August 2018

Recently in Hawaii, a place filled with mana, the energy of the ancient, an essence felt like a gentle cloud lifting your spirit. We landed in Honolulu and then took a flight to Kauai the smallest island of the Hawaiian group, yet the oldest.

Several hours after we landed Pele the volcano on the Big Island erupted. After a discussion with the local natives, they expressed no surprise nor concern. They understood Pele and had a deeper more profound connection which gave me confidence that all would be well.

On my second morning, I was enjoying breakfast by the ocean with a couple of friends when a native in spirit came to me. We began a conversation, unbeknown to my friends sitting at the table, and he asked if I would do a ceremony on the beach, which I agreed. I have to say that I didn’t know what that would look like but trusted I would know at the time.

That afternoon we went off to peruse the island, and the next morning I went down to the ocean alone and began to walk along the beach. The sun shone with such warmth, the sea breeze gently kissed my skin, and the salt air made me feel alive and happy. The ocean was magical, and then I stumbled across a seal sunning itself looking delightfully peaceful. This was the place!

Feeling a sense of excitement, I took off my sandals and walked into the water up to my ankles, then raised my hands, and as I did the native spirits surrounded me. I unleashed my soul’s voice, a light language I have sung since a small child. Then I heard them as they sang in the same language, a first for me, and my heart burst open with joy. The energy was electrifying yet soothing as we harmonised together, and I soon lost myself in it. For how long I have no idea, but what I can say is I was abruptly woken out of my state by a rush of icy cold water between my legs. OMG. I looked down to see the water was lapping at the top of my thighs. Had I walked in further?

I moved back out of the water and onto the wet sand, feeling a little dazed. Then my feet sunk into the compacted sand covering my ankles. Then, thump, thump thump. A steady beat pounded hard under my feet, the sand around moved with the intensity, tears began to flow for I felt Mother Earth’s heartbeat. I gently closed my eyes feeling one with her, a sacred time, never to be forgotten.

Previously, I’ve been compelled to travel to far and distant places to heal the land, and the people, and be the key to open portals and vortexes. This time was very different for it was a gift and blessing for me. A past life known about yet confirmed in greater detail, which tears still flow in gratitude today.

Hawaii Here I Come

Hawaii.jpg

Hawaii here I come… this journey has been a long time coming, although I know everything happens when the time is right, I’m delighted it is here, and I leave tomorrow.

Let me share why I’ve felt a strong urge to go to Hawaii. There was a time I spent many months on the North Island of New Zealand in a place called Whakatane. I still remember the day this journey began. I was working in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne as a counsellor, and my client entered the room. She was from the Maori culture, and part way through her session I noticed a huge, tall and robust looking Maori man standing behind her and next to him was a slender, tall Maori woman with long salt and pepper hair. Without thought, I mentioned the man to Lisa. His energy was so loud and compelling it just slipped out.

She looked at me and enquired further as to what he looked like which I shared. She then said, “That’s Koro, our spiritual leader.” By this stage, I was feeling a little uncomfortable because she had come for counselling, and I felt this was unprofessional of me. It was too late, and the door was wide open.

She then said, “He must be calling you to New Zealand.” Initially, I was a little unsure, but in my heart, I felt such a connection to both these apparitions, although I thought they were spirits initially until Lisa stated Koro was still very much alive. The other lady though was different and later on in my journey I understood why she was there and her purpose.

Within a week I was leaving for Peru a trip I’d planned earlier, and three months after my return I received an email from Lisa with Koro’s number. I called Koro, and this marked the beginning of an adventure and discovery and profound love for New Zealand and a mystical part of me. A three-year journey or should I say quest into the unknown, and a deep understanding of the shaman and seer hidden within.

There were many lessons and breaking of illusions. I learnt so much as I volunteered my services to do healing and counselling within the Maori culture and experienced an intimate and loving connection with Koro and the Maori community. The outcome was a new understanding of myself, my path, and my purpose, and is the path I continue to follow.

During my walk upon this land, I came to understand the Maori did not originate from New Zealand. They came from the Polynesian Islands, and I have for some time wanted to trace their steps, and Hawaii was on my list.

I have to share that although going to Hawaii with this initial intention, it’s a writing retreat with Tom Bird that has called me.

With an open heart and mind, it’s time to venture forth, stand on the land of Hawaii, connect to the ancestors and be open to their teachings. The awareness is in the courage to walk where I intuitively feel led no matter what calls me there.

Will share more from Hawaii next week.
